The department of Cardiology NRSMCH started in the year 1972. The first head of the department was Prof. (Dr.) Ajit kr. Sengupta followed by Prof. (Dr.) J.C Ghose. Initially Diploma in Cardiology training under the University of Calcutta(C.U) used to be imparted from the department. A few DM candidates of C.U appeared at DM exam from the department in the year 1988-1990 before the regular DM course started in the year 2010. At present every year three DM candidates are admitted and pass out from the department.
Besides this DCLT( Dip. in Cath Lab Technology) & DECT ( Dip. in Electrocardiographic Technique)- these two Diploma courses for the Technicians are conducted for 12-18 students every year.
PGTs of MD (Medicine) & (DNB (Medicine) also come for Cardiology exposer in the department regularly from nrsmch as well as other Medical College of West Bengal.
Service Provided:
Indoor: (78 Beds including ICCU)
Moribund patients are admitted and give in conservative as well as interventional support.
Interventions offer from the department-
1. Coronary, Cerebral and Peripheral angiography including DSA.
2. All sorts of PCI.
3. Temporary and permanent Pacing.
4. ICD, CRT and CRDT implantations.
5. BMV, BPV & BAV are frequently done.
6. Device closure of ASD, VSD & PDA are done regularly.
OPD SERVICES (9AM-3PM)
Everyday 400-600 patients attend OPD.
Paediatric Cardiology OPD run on Monday only.
ECG, TMT, Holter Monitoring are done regularly.
ECHO- DOPPLER study done daily on 60-70 patients at OPD & Indoor.
