The beginning of our cardiac surgery department has been fascinating with the strong foundation of immense work, dedication and innovation by pioneering cardiac surgeons. It had grown over time through difficult times and many innovative inclusions like Husfeldt Laboratory. Initially it was merged with the department of surgery and in 1973 it was emerged as an independent department. Presently the department has 45 functioning beds with state of the art ITU and HDU facilities with three well equipped operation theatre to cater comprehensive range of cardiovascular and thoracic ailments requiring surgical care including paediatric and neonatal population. We have outdoor facilities throughout the week days with cardiac anaesthesia clinic, valve clinic and heart failure clinic including emergency care of patients. The department has state of the art facilities like pre and intraop 4D TEE facility, ECG, X-Ray, arterial blood gas. This setup utilizes external defibrillator, pacemaker, IABP, Cell saver and ECMO for the benefit of patients with wide range of complex cardiovascular disease. The operation theaters in the CTVS are all equipped for comprehensive adult and paediatric cardiovascular and thoracic surgeries including MICS, VATS, Endovascular surgeries, Transplant procedures for complex cardiothoracic and vascular cases. Dept has hoards of academic activities round the year like regular lecture classes, seminars and workshops with two teaching rooms, It runs MCh in CTVS, Physician Assistant, Diploma in Perfusion technology and Cardiovascular Nursing courses (CVT, BSc and MSc).

Many reknownned CTVS surgeons after having passed from this institute have placed themselves in many important acedamic position in important institutions in India and abroad.
