UG Teaching Program

The NRS Medical College ( Nilratan Sircar Medical College) was named Campbell Medical School initially and that institute was established in the years 1873. Now the Medical College is having the 152nd year running. In the Department of Anatomy these are a group of Competent faculties,Junior residents and non-teaching members. In the undergraduate curriculum, there are 250 1st year MBBS students who are involved with Anatomy for one year. Regular classes (lecture and demonstration) are organised for the undergraduate students for teaching theoritical & practical aspects of ANATOMY.Three terminal exams are held for the 1st year MBBS students before the University examination ( 1st Prof MBBS).During the curriculum, the 1st year MBBS students are taught about Gross Anatomy, Osteology ,Embryology,Histology, Genetics, Neuroanatomy etc. UG Students take part in vertical and horizontal integration sessions (as a part of academic activities), extra-curricular activities like cultural programmes and in sports.

Other than 1st prof MBBS curriculum,Anatomy is also being taught to the 1st prof.BDS (Dental) students,B.Sc Nursing ,paramedical (of different disciplines like BPT,DRD,Optometry,Transfusion Medicine,Intervention technology , ECG technology) and Unani students with great care .

We have so many models, charts, museums specimens in our well equipped museum. We receive so many donated cadavers to teach dissection to the students.

PG Teaching Program

There four seats of MD (Anatomy) Curriculum in each year in the Dept. of Anatomy, NRS Medical College. So there should be 12 post graduate students in Anatomy in three years altogether. At present we have six PG students or Junior Residents in the Dept. of Anatomy. They participate regularly in lecture and demonstration classes, also take practical classes and sometimes lecture classes for different groups of students.

The Junior Residents or the PG students work  to complete their thesis under the able supervisions of the guides and co-guides (may be fron other disciplines). The Junior Residents also take part in seminars, micro-teaching sessions,  group discussions, CME, Journal Club, and other academic activities like appearing at the yearly exams (theory, oral and practical exams), parafin block preparation, microtomy, staining the slides with tissue as a part of their practical Histology training.

They also participate in several state conferences and national conferences every year to present posters and papers. They are sent to the departments of Pathology and Radiology once during their MD Curriculum for improvement of knowledge. The PG students have to undergo the District Residency Programme (DRP) for 3 months in the 2nd year for practical orientation.

After three years of training they have the final MD exam under WBUHS (West Bengal University of Health Sciences) to confer MD (Anatomy) Degree on them.

Different Cadaveric workshops are organized in the Dept. of Anatomy in collaboration with other departments like Orthopedics, ENT, and Neurosurgery on regular basis to facilitate the faculty members and residents.
